Gypsy Stage Company

Workshopping

Gypsy Stage Company was a professional ensemble theater company created specifically to develop, workshop, and stage original works by playwrights Judith Sapperstein and Gary Murway.

Formed as a creative laboratory, Gypsy Stage brought together seasoned performers who thrived on working directly with playwrights during the shaping of new characters, dialogue, and story structure. This close collaboration allowed scripts to evolve through live performance, audience response, and artistic refinement.

The result was theater that was tested, lived in, and strengthened long before licensing ever entered the conversation.

Mission / Purpose

Gypsy Stage Company existed to serve two essential purposes.

First, it gave performers the opportunity to stretch their craft within original works, contributing insight and nuance during the development process. Second, it allowed Sapperstein and Murway to introduce new plays and musicals to live audiences at a professional level, gathering invaluable feedback in the process.

These productions took place primarily in the Bucks County, Pennsylvania area and were staged for real audiences, not readings or workshops in isolation.

Studio 32 Section

As the company evolved, so did its methods.

Through an in-house audio and video facility known as Studio 32, many performances were professionally recorded and edited into full-length archival productions. These recordings served both as documentation of the work and as a reference point during the licensing process.

For theaters considering a show, this offered an additional layer of insight into tone, pacing, and audience reception.

Gypsy Stage Company is no longer producing live performances, but its work remains a vital part of how these scripts were developed and refined.
