Who are
TLC Shows
For?
Who These Shows Are For
We’ve all been on the other side of this decision.
Sitting at a table with a script list, a calendar, a budget, and a cast reality that never quite matches the dream. That’s the perspective we bring to everything we do at TLC Scripts.
We’re a family-owned and operated company run by people who have spent their lives in rehearsal rooms, tech booths, classrooms, and backstage hallways. We write, license, and support shows with real production environments in mind, not idealized ones.
Our catalog isn’t built to be everything to everyone. It’s built to work well in specific situations. Here’s where our shows tend to be the best fit.
Community & Volunteer Theatres
Much of our work is written with community theatre realities at the forefront.
These shows are a strong fit for theatres that:
- Work with adult volunteer casts
- Balance artistic goals with practical limitations
- Operate with modest budgets and shared resources
- Value strong storytelling, humor, and emotional connection over spectacle
If your theatre thrives on collaboration, flexibility, and heart, you’ll feel at home here.
Small & Flexible Cast Productions
Many TLC plays are intentionally written for smaller casts, often under 10–14 performers.
These productions work especially well for:
- Theatres with limited or uneven performer pools
- Companies that rely on role-doubling
- Black box and intimate stage spaces
- Groups that prefer focused, character-driven stories
We don’t pad casts for the sake of numbers. Instead, we prioritize meaningful roles and clean storytelling, giving directors flexibility without unnecessary complexity.
Theatre for Young Audiences
(Performed for Children and Families)
Several TLC works are written specifically for young audiences, with themes that speak directly to children and families.
These shows:
- Explore topics like kindness, empathy, responsibility, and personal growth
- Are well suited for family audiences and youth programming
- Are often performed by adults or small youth ensembles
- Emphasize clarity, warmth, and accessibility
These productions are designed to be performed for children, rather than to serve as large, classroom-wide participation pieces.
Large Ensemble Musicals
While much of our catalog favors smaller casts, we do offer select musicals designed for larger ensembles.
These productions are well suited for:
- Schools and youth programs
- High-participation environments
- Ensemble-forward storytelling
- Productions that need flexibility without overwhelming technical demands
When a show is built to support a larger cast, we’re explicit about it, because we know participation matters.
Intimate Stages & Practical Technical Setups
Across our catalog, practicality matters.
Many TLC shows are written to work effectively with:
- Simple or flexible staging
- Modest scenic requirements
- Adaptable blocking
- Realistic technical demands
Our work is developed hands-on, tested in rehearsal and performance environments, and shaped by the realities of making theatre with the resources most groups actually have.
A Note on Fit
Choosing a show is about alignment, not just enthusiasm.
We aim to be clear about where our works shine so you can make confident decisions without surprises. Each script page includes specific information about cast size, flexibility, and production considerations to help you determine whether a show is right for your group.
And if you’re unsure, you’ll always be talking to a real person who understands the work. We’ve been there too.
