Before the hit Mother Truckers Radio Show Format was finalized for the stage, Maxine and Charlotte’s adventures continued around our kitchen table. These audio episodes are the “lost skits”—original stories that happen after the events of the primary Mother Truckers stage play.

While these specific episodes aren’t in the licensed scripts, they capture the spirit of the 4-actor, old-fashioned radio show format we eventually built for the stage.

Why Directors Love the Radio Show Format:

• Tiny Stage Friendly: Amazing for “Small Stage” setups or black box theaters with as few as 60 seats.

• Minimalist Set: All you need are two stools, four vintage microphones, a Foley table with props and 2 coat racks with jackets and hats for the male and female support characters.

• The “Foley” Factor: Features an on-stage sound effects artist (usually a co-opted janitor!) who provides live, hilarious (and sometimes messy) sound effects.

• Character Chameleon: One man and one woman play every supporting role with quick-change hats and jackets, while Maxine and Charlotte hold down the center.

Bring the Hilarity to Your Stage: Love the vibe of these snippets? The full Mother Truckers: Radio Show Edition is available for licensing. It’s a completely different play from the original—new jokes, silly old-fashioned commercials, and a narrator who keeps the chaos moving.
